Portable Airstairs Print E-mail

portable_stairs_for_a_bae_146_aircraft.jpgPortable Aircraft Steps & Airstairs

In these days most airlines want to cut costs and find themselves operating from alternative airports where there is limited access equipment.  Or maybe diverted to an alternative airport and cannot disembark the passengers when waiting for steps. Now there is our alternative that can be stored in the Hold and used when required.

Designed using the same angles and tread numbers as the factory fitted stairs, passengers can safely board and disembark the aircraft.

At no point do these aircraft stairs touch any part of the Fuselage or the door sill. A clever connection method makes the stairs sit inside the door on the Cabin floor and impossible to slip off.  When maintenance is being carried out there are two high visual sighting bars, which confirm the steps have not been inadvertantly moved by another person.

As boarding takes place and the aircraft lowers the stairs automatically find their own level.

The portable aircraft steps detailed left are natural aluminium coloured and are fitted to a BAE 146 aircraft in less than two minutes from removing from the hold by a Pilot or Ground crew.

Weighing just 32 kgs the airstairs are simple and lightweight to handle in two sections or alternatively can be hinged.

step_level_with_cabin.jpgAnother important key feature is the stair tread surface. Ra'alloy is known globally for producing everlasting, all weather, anti slip floor and these treads include a lightweight version.

The stairs are then simply slotted together and  the handrail is extended and locked into position. Please see the explanatory video below.

Our second generation airstairs are detailed in the left animation and these are fully modular with the ability to re-configure into three different sizes for doors up to 240 cm high. They also have plastic coated handrail to prevent passenger burns in hot or cold climates and black stairtreads with yellow warning nosings.

All of our aluminium stairs and steps undergo vigorous intypical_aircraft_stair_treads.jpg house testing including a multiple user test.

We can adapt the aircraft stairs to suit virtually any aircraft.

One important key feature is the cost, compared to factory fitted aircraft steps. Our airstairs are a small fraction of the price, and airlines will save money and time as the aircraft is not grounded for fitting.

However we can supply our portable airstairs in a folding configuration and mechanical or hydraulic assistance. This is a replacement for factory fitted  airstairs and would require fitting by appropriate aero engineers. They can also be adapted to replace existing factory fitted airstairs depending on  the complexity of existing support brackets.

For the aircraft maintenance industry these stairs represent versatility in itself. They are easiliy stored in minimal space and when they required can be set up against virtually any of the doors, as the stairs have a large height variation. For onsite or field maintenance our aircraft steps are simply loaded into a small van without the need for towing etc.

Portable Airstairs Cradle With Passenger Platform

Our Portable airstairs can now slot into airstair-carrier-animation.gifan aluminium Cradle and be used as normal Airstairs.

Left at the Airport, other aircraft can make use of this easily handled and lightweight Airstair.

It takes just one person seconds to position  the Airstair Carrier to the aircraft.

For ease of height adjustment to match the aircraft the platform is simply raised or lowered by a hydraulic hand pump. The Airstair then follows the height adjustment of the platform as it does when used on the aircraft.

If the aircraft is scheduled to fly to an airport that may carry delays, or is likely that they do not have height matching airstairs, the Crew simply unclips the airstair from the carrier and take there own with then in the Hold as above.

The airstair cradle also boasts

  • a rubber buffer where the airstairs meets the aircraft
  • Sliding handrail on the platform to allow the door to open
  • Fully steerable wheels (stair end )
  • Pneumatic tyres
  • High visability sides on the platform
  • All weather anti slip floor
  • Aluminium construction.
  • Plastic coated handrails for all weather touch safety                 thumb_aviation_service_platform.jpg
  • Wordwide delivery in easy to assemble flat pack.
  • Extremely economical cost.
