Airstairs Carried with the aircraft are a popular product of Ra'alloy which has also proved to be innovative for the aviation industry The pictures left show the same airstairs used on both the galley doors and the front cabin door. These days many airlines find themselves operating from alternative airports where there is limited access equipment - or maybe diverted to an alternative airport and cannot disembark the passengers whilst waiting for steps. Now we have designed a solution with our portable stairs that that can be stored in the hold of the aircraft and used when required an any of the cabin doors. Designed using the same angles and tread numbers as the factory fitted stairs, passengers can safely board and disembark the aircraft via these lightweight aluminium stairs. At no point do these aircraft stairs touch any part of the fuselage or the door sill, as the connection method makes the stairs sit inside the door onto the cabin floor. As boarding takes place and the aircraft lowers, the stairs automatically find their own level, similar to factory fitted stairs. Our multi purpose aircraft steps can be fetched from the hold and set up by the crew or groundstaff in less than two minutes. The video below shows the first prototype stairs being fetched from the hold of a BAE 146 and set up in less than two minutes. These prototype air-stairs show a slot together unit with foldable handrail. As an alternative we can offer the actual stairs hinged and the handrails can then slot into the stairs allowing the handrail to be stored seperately.
Handrails are plastic coated to prevent passenger burns in hot or cold climates and black stair treads with yellow warning nosings. One important key feature is the cost, compared to factory fitted aircraft steps, our air-stairs are a small fraction of the price and airlines will save money and time as the aircraft does not need to be grounded for installation. Here is a video showing the ease of assembly of our prototype unit.
